DAY 14 quickie
Short run today. Seems I have 'runners knee.' It sucks. They have been bothering me, especially the right one, ever since I started this running stint. Progressively more swollen. Especially the right one. damn. It's really been bothering me today. My husband is in the medical field, and while he is not a doctor, he can spot a ^%$#ed up knee... and he spotted one. ha. Did a little research online, I am going to assume that it's because of my tight hamstrings, weak thigh muscles, and so forth. So as of now, the plan is to ice it after runs, and try stretching a bunch. (I have never been able to touch my toes... hopefully the stretching will make me a limber linda). Run today went well, I haven't logged it yet, but I think it was around 1.5 miles. Nice little short run.. it was cold and rainy and felt WONDERFUL. mmm.. I am really liking running now. I used to dread it, hubby has tried a few times to get me into it... but some how, magically, once I find the pace, it just works. :) I guess we'll have to wait and see if I still feel this way at DAY 234.

DAY 13. The Long Run Bent Over For ME!?
6.2 miles. Got up with the fam., had 1/2 pc toasted ezekiel, downed a cup of coffee (dunno if that's recommended or not but whatever. I need my joe.) Hit the streets at about 7:45ish.. (can't believe I didn't look to see what time I started!) Wonderful Husband babysat the little one so it was just me and the open road.. or open sidewalk. I kicked ass. Man, I can't believe I actually finnished it without wussin out. AND to make a crazy story absolutely bonkers, I ran the whole damned thing. Stopped for water, once 'cause I couldn't remember which way to go (new route) and twice for stoplights. AND THAT'S IT.
My husband, the runner, the marathoner and relay racer, tried to pump me up this morning. I resisted. Pressure = nervous = fear of failure = me pussing out. Sweet as he is, he played it anyway. Eye of the Tiger. We laughed it off and danced around the living room with Babygirl. Well, I did get a little nervous, but as soon as I settled in to 'my pace,' I stomped those butterflies and kept on truckin'. I was feelin' pretty good too, until... I saw that I was coming upon a hill that was not big by any means, but one that I would have normally walked up, no questions asked. I'll be damned if that stinkin song didn't pound in to my head. I didn't think, "what was that song we listened to??" or "think of something else!" With that big first note (bum! bum bum bum! bum bum bum! bum bum bummmmmmmmmmmmm...) it came booming into my head and I charged that hill like Jason Street could if he had his legs back (Thank you, Friday Night Lights.) So, Thank You, Wonderful Husband.
Because without you, I sing songs from little beans tv shows while I run, and slowly lose my sanity.
AND I am running my first EVER race one week from today! A 10K, here in Fort Wayne, downtown.. Will post more info later.

DAY 12 virgin.
As of today, I am a virgin to the 'long run.' I am gonna go ahead and say that right now, I consider a 'long run' to be anything over 5 miles. Tomorrow I am losing it to the long run.. my first long run.. I hope it holds me afterwards.. or at least calls me again. Wish me luck!!
As a side note, I have posted a rant recently about my shitty running wardrobe.. well, I am now the proud owner of a 'running skirt' thingy. I found an old gift card from back in February, it was for Old Navy. I was pretty sure it was empty. But, it just so happened that on a window shopping expedition, the little one and I were right in front of one.. so I went in, got the balance checked, and low and behold.. a whopping $23 on that sucker. Well, I started towards the sale section... ya, that's how I role. Stumbled upon the excer-wear section and BOOM. 18 bux. done. HOWEVER. This pavement pirate is still a little plump so after a few runs in the lovely little thing, the 'ole thunder thighs started rubbin' and well I am pretty sure at one point, my crotch was litterally on fire. :) so we're gonna save those for the short runs. lata!

DAY 8 camel toe.
Don't run in granny panties. I learned that lesson yesterday, and so did all my neighbors, I'm sure.
It was Mother's Day, and we were getting ready to go on a little hike. We are fortunate enough to live very close to a state park and national wildlife preserve so we decided to check it out. Well, getting ready for this little adventure, I decided comfort was more important that looking pc in my stretchy black pants..(we'll address those later.) So I decided to don the 'ole granny panties. We were going to get a run in at the park, but most trails were not paved and I'm sure you can imagine how tough it would be to run with a stroller and two dogs through the woods. We walked a bit, had a snack, tried to get the pups to play in the lake (they weren't feelin' it.) and then climbed back in the truck and headed home.
Let's take a break and talk about the pants. So. To make it short and sweet (no pun intended) These are the pants you see someone wearing and you think, "gee, she'd be cute if she didn't look like such a dumbass in those short ass pants." Yea. I'm that girl. I bought these pants from TJMaxx, when I was PREGNANT. They were supposed to be 'maternity yoga pants.' I probably did yoga 5 times when I was preggers... and haven't worn the pants since. Well, like I mentioned before, I'm not really the 'athletic' type, so my workout wardrobe consists of one sports bra, an old tshirt, and these God forsaken pants. That's it. I do have some sweet new running shoes... Brooks... LOVE THEM. They are annoyingly colorful and make me feel like a real runner:) BUT. They just add to the 'dumbass' look when I pair them with my high water stretchy black pants and usually missmatched socks. So there's your visual. I'm sorry.
Well, when we got home from our 'hiking' trip, Baby Girl went down for a nap and JD and the pups were washing the truck. So Mama went for a run. I was kind of 'ancy' (?) to get goin so I just threw on my good shoes and grabbed a headband and went. Still wearing the granny panties. (I own probably 3 pair, and am not planning on purchasing more, ever.) Well, I probably got 1/4 of a mile, and I'll just say, everything started riding everywhere. Thank goodness it was Mothers Day, people were out doing stuff.. We live in one of those neighborhoods where people are outside all the time (yes, even in Fort Wayne Indiana.) Which is lovely and endearing usually, but yesterday, man I was glad they weren't. Poor squirrels.
On a more 'down to business' note, running is going great. Saturday and Cameltoe Sunday I got to run without the stroller so I worked a little more on speed... not because I care, but I hear it builds endurance so whatever. I can really feel it in my calves today. It's weird, whenever I get busy exercising I always feel 'fatter.' Always feel bloated... gross... maybe that is why It's never stuck.. I get discouraged and give up. Well not this time, fatass. :) I feel bloated and disgusting, but I gotta tell you, I still look forward to every run. I ran in the rain this past Saturday, took one of the dogs with me, (probably won't again, she drags her toenails and she wore them down to where they started to bleed:( poor pup), it felt wonderful. Sometimes I still walk up the inclines (I won't call them hills because they aren't.) But I'm finding myself challenging myself (does that make sense?) 'get up the hill faster! If you run, it'll be over sooner! Crazy.
right now, I'm loving it.
I'm also going vegetarian. Done it before, but as I'm sure some of you out there know, it is sometimes just easier to eat what everyone else is eating. I've never really liked meat, never 'wanted a steak.' So I think the only challenge will be coming up with recipes that my husband, still carnivore, and I will both enjoy... and our daughter. I'm not worried about protein. Our daughter has 3 favorite foods, frozen blueberries, green peas, and garbanzo beans. I just throw beans or peas in salads and whatever else I can sneak them into that I eat. I think our almond milk might have some protein in there too, oh and the greek yogurt I dip just about all my raw veggie snacks in. My ultimate goal is to become vegan, but I figured with just moving, daily running, baby, and lots of other stuff, eating a vegetarian diet is enough for now.
tnx, gotta run!

DAY 10. lost, man.
So last post was mid-morning of day 8. Before day 8's run. ... Later that day, I took little one for a run. We got lost. Not scary ghetto lost and fearing for our lives, not wilderness lost looking for firewood. We were running lost, not nearly as scary as the aforementioned but scary nonetheless.. especially with a little one, no water and no phone. Well, towards the beginning of a regular route, I decide to take us down a different road, which led to another new road and so on. We did finally make it back and when I checked our rout on runnersworld.com we had only gone about 3.2 miles. Not that impressive. Our usual runs are only around 2.5 miles so it was still a little more that normal, but it felt a lot farther. By the by, RunnersWorld.com has an amazing (and free!) running log. They even have an application that will find your neighborhood (or wherever you run) and let you mark which route you take AND it calculates the distance for you! You can save your routes and log your miles daily, weekly, and monthly. It's helped me a lot, especially when you can see how far you've gone in the past week.. as of today, I've logged 22.6.My Training Log
Ten days in, that's a little over 2 miles a day. I'm happy. There are a lot of runners out there that would be disappointed, but I am the girl who walked part of 'the mile' in highschool. I am the girl who dreaded taking the dogs to the beach (something that in itself is so much fun) because we walked when we went. (that was also back in my going out every night and smoking era). So for me, the lazy un-athlete, 2 miles a day is damn good.
Day 9 was a busy day, so we only squeezed in a 1.3 miler, which I made up for yesterday by gettin' after it with a nice 3.4 miles. And let me tell ya, IT WAS HOT. I felt like we were back in North Carolina again. Note to self: check weather and run IN THE MORNING! I say morning instead of evening because we took a long family walk last night and it wasn't much cooler. The dogs wanted to kill us, and little bean got rosy cheeks:)
We haven't run yet today, but Mama has some errands to run before we hit the pavement so we might end up waiting till this evening. It is supposed to rain, but it was supposed to rain yesterday too and well, it didn't. Maybe I'll have my first solo in the rain while Mr. Wonderful watches the bebes. We'll see.
P.S. Just watched the first 45 minutes of the movie Food Inc. So happy to be vegetarian and happy to have a veggie baby as well. She likes her garbanzo beans and blue berries, no carcass for my baby.
HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY!

DAY 5. crow flies straight
I've got 5 days under my belt, so to speak. Each run has been around 2.5 miles. (and right now, it's more of a jog than a 'run') Running in the Winter here might be harsh. Hell, running in the Summer here might be harsh too, I don't know. We are new... to everything.... Marriage, Parenthood, Indiana, to name a few. This Blog will be my Log, mostly for running, might catch a few other things along the way. I tend to ramble sometimes....
First five days went great. Not sure what we'll do when it's raining.. I take our daughter with me when I run. She is just over one year old;) We also have 2 dogs (adopt!!! save a life!!!) around 60 lbs each, they like to run too.... sometimes. So, I guess we'll tackle the rain/snow speedbump when we get there. I am lucky/blessed enough to be a 'stay at home mom,' thankfully. I have a wonderful husband who amazes me every day. He has 3 marathons under his belt. I am hoping to follow in his footsteps. I am jealous:)
lil bit about me;
I am not athletic. I have never played sports. Up until 3 years ago, I ate a very unhealthy, 'poor college student' diet, drank PBR's every night, and laid on the beach all day... not very active. AND I smoked on top of it!
Then I met JD. My wonderful husband. He is great... in every way. Especially in the way he makes me want to be great. We were engaged a year after meeting, and our daughter was born a year after that. We have moved several times and lived in 3 different states. We have been busy. I have tried running off and on this whole time, but something always comes up.. gets me off track, and then I never get back on. so.
This past Christmas, I got JD a Runner's World subscription. There was recently an article about a man who ran for a year straight. (no, not Forest Gump style, ran once a day for a year.) Got me thinking. I have all of these goals I'd like to accomplish, but I have never been good on deadlines. i.e. if I say, 'i'll run 3 times this week, I'll inevitably wait till the last three days in the week, and then STILL not run because, well, the three times a week thing is my rule, and there are no consequences if I break it. AAAnd I take the easy way out, am slightly dissappointed in myself for maybe 2 minutes, and get over it.
So. If it's an every day thing, there's no putting it off. And I am hoping that once I get into the 'rhythm' of running every day, It'll be more of a habit than a responsibility.
Day 5 complete. Let's see how the first weekend goes...
Happy Friday!
